UN Declare December 21st World Meditation Day
Join us for a practice with our EAMBA community this Saturday at 10-10.30am
Dear MTAI Members,
On the 6th of December, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 21st December as World Meditation Day in order to “raise awareness about meditation and its benefits, recalling the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.”
The decision (an initiative from the member states) follows a conversation between Volker Türk and Jon Kabat Zinn in October ’24. You can enjoy the full episode published in the UN Podcast.
EAMBA, of which the MTAI are an active member, are inviting its international community of teachers to meditate together on the 21st of December, and participate in this memorable moment initiated by the UN.
Join via this Zoom 11:00am – 11:30am CET (that’s 10:00am - 10.30am Irish time) this Saturday the 21st of December.
Meeting ID: 841 0191 6844. Passcode: 071061
We hope to see you there if you can make it.
Other UN World Meditation Day Initiatives
Also on Saturday, the Mindfulness Initiative UK (MI-UK) will be hosting an online event at 8:00am to mark the day. The MTAI have been collaborating with the MI-UK as part of the MI Global Political Forum. They will have a practice led by Mark Williams with an introduction from Mara Arizaga, Head of the Well-being Unit at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Warm wishes,
